Page 20?!

Well the New York Times has finally gotten around to covering the illegally obtained credit report of Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele—a Republican—by two researchers at the Chuck Schumer-led Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. The incident first broke on the blogosphere two weeks ago and has come to be known as "Chuckaquiddick."

But, surprise surprise, the Times article—which appears on page 20—isn't about what Democrats did wrong, but rather about how scheming on-the-ropes Republicans are hoping to exploit this minor, insignificant incident. Here's the lead graph of the Times story:

National Republicans, who face an uphill battle in their efforts to capture the open United States Senate seat in heavily Democratic Maryland next year, are trying to exploit potential legal problems that Democrats are now suddenly facing in that race.

I know I shouldn't be surprised. I know this kind of bias is old hat for the NY Times. But it still galls me that they a. would do this and b. would get away with it. With any luck—and a lot of work from conservatives in the blogosphere—"b" won't be true.
